Scaling prediction for membrane distillation

Summary: Deposition of salts on the membrane, which is called scaling, decreases the distillate flux, and increases the energy consumption of membrane distillation. Therefore, knowing beforehand if scaling would occur is critical for the design of the process conditions. Here, the electrolyte non-random two liquid theory is discussed, and an example is given.
